Whomst Am I?

Hey there! My name’s Jenn Polish, and I like warm hugs. (Get the Frozen reference?) Young adult fantasy novels and fan fiction are my jam, and working out is my peanut butter. I… clearly enjoy puns a little too much.

I’ve been a college professor of Theatre and English in the CUNY system, and I got my PhD in English from the CUNY Graduate Center in early 2019. I’m a certified personal trainer with a love of body positive powerlifting, and when I’m not writing or in the gym, I’m definitely watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

A humbling grey and white pencil drawing by the incredible, amazing L.M., who depicted me standing with sufficiently short hair, awesome arm muscles, a cool sweater-vest with a J on one side and a butterfly on the other; I’m holding a circular, turtle shell-style shield at rest in my gloved hands. An open notebook with a pen on top of it comprise the shield’s emblem.

Why I Write

I write young adult fantasy because we all deserve to read ourselves in the pages of sweeping adventures and epic romances; we all deserve to fly on the backs of dragons and go on epic space adventures.

My first novel was a lesbian enemies-to-lovers faerie tale; my first novella was a trans, queer retelling of Peter Pan in which Neverland is a holomatrix, Hook is a bisexual cyborg, Peter’s a trans boy in love with his nonbinary best friend, and Tink is an asexual lesbian computer interface; the novel I’m currently working on is the origin story of a trans boy superhero whose power is being able to read other people’s feelings and transform that emotional energy into physical healing.

I write because it’s in my blood; I write because I can’t stop. I’d be honored for your company on this journey.
