About Me

Hi hey hello! My name's Jenn Polish (they/them pronouns, please!), and I write things!

Welcome! Welcome to the strange inner workings of my nerdy, dragon-loving, superhero-oriented, lesbian fairy tale-spinning mind.

I'm a New Yorker (Queens pride!!) who's been writing about as long as I've been playing basketball (so, a long time).

When I'm not writing, I'm teaching writing -- and learning a lot about it, because my students are absolutely brilliant -- at CUNY LaGuardia Community College. In addition to teaching writing, I am immensely proud to teach in the Theatre Program at LAGCC.

I'm currently pursuing my PhD in English literature at the CUNY Graduate Center; my academic work tends to focus on race and mental health in college writing classrooms, with side servings of studying young adult literature. (Fun fact: my MA thesis was on The Hunger Games!)

I graduated eons ago from CUNY Queens College, double-nerding/double-majoring in biology and history.

When I'm not teaching or writing, I'm probably in the gym. (I may or may not be a personal trainer on the side. I may or may not be a complete and utter fitness nerd. Sara Lance and Oliver Queen may or may not be my #fitgoals.)

When I'm not doing any of the above, I'm likely with my beautiful fiancée, cooking vegan meals, taking walks through our neighborhood, snuggling up to watch Person of Interest, reading The Ultimate Spiderman comics, or fanbying over America Chavez.

Me! Collared henley-type shirt, newsies cap, boyish hair, soft grin: my teaching aesthetic!

A full-body portrait by the wonderful teen artist LM, who depicts me in superhero gear: a sleeveless vest-style hoodie with a butterfly on one side and the initial J on the other; buff arms that I partially have and partially aspire to; workout-style gloves, loosely holding a turtle shell-patterned shield with a notebook and pen as the crest; and badass laced boots.
